People's Daily Online -- Romanian President Traian Basescu signed on Friday a decree by which Second Lieutenant Dumitru Ioan Grosaru was posthumously awarded "Romanian Star" Order in rank of Knight for military with war insignia.

According to the Presidential Administration, the order was awarded for the excellent devotion he proved during a mission in the operations theater in Iraq.

The 35-year old Grosaru died on Friday morning after an amphibious armored personnel carrier on a mission to southern Iraq was damaged. Other five Romanian military were wounded.

According to the Defense Ministry, the amphibious armored personnel carrier was carrying out a patrol mission near the Tallil military base, when it caught fire following the blast of an improvised explosive device.

Individuals Romaniawww.daily-news.ro -- Despite the first casualty of a Romanian soldier due to a fatal blast in Iraq, politicians agree that Romanian troops should not yet be withdrawn from the war effort.

The bomb targeted a four-vehicle convoy on its way to relieve troops at the local Iraqi police station in the city of Nasiriyah, where more than 2,000 Italian troops are stationed.

One of the vehicles was destroyed, killing two Italians and one Romanian onboard as well as severely injuring other passengers. Besides the Romanian soldier, the vehicles were carrying 15 Italian Carabineers.

In addition, the Italian news agencies citing government sources, reported that one of the wounded later died, which would raise the number of dead to four.

The explosion occurred at 8.50 a.m. local time on a road southwest of Nasiriyah, when an explosives-laden car drove into the armored vehicle.

Individuals Romaniawww.keralanext.com -- BUCHAREST - A Romanian soldier in Iraq who tried to commit suicide ten days ago died in a Kuwaiti hospital late Saturday, the Romanian news agency reported Sunday.

The soldier, Dobre Lili, fired at his head in his tent on March 14 after finishing petrol around the area. He was in an immediate coma after the shot and was rushed to a nearby Kuwaiti hospital for treatment.

The cause of suicide was unknown.
