Jose Argelio Soto Ochoa

La Prensa -- San Salvador. President Tony Saca lamented the death of a captain and the caused injuries to four soldiers more in an insurgent attack to a Salvadoran convoy in a town of the south of Iraq.

"The captain Jose Argelio Soto Ochoa died like a hero after contributing enormously to the humanitarian subject in favor of Iraq", said Extraction in a message to the nation, transmitted yesterday in a radio chain.

Extraction, that is in Japan like part of a tour by Asia, announced that it ordered to make agile the repatriation of the corpse of the official and informed that other four soldiers were slightly wounded.

The death of Soto captain Ochoa represents the fifth victim from the first shipment of the Salvadoran military in August of 2003.

Other 20 soldiers have been hurt in different attacks from the insurgents.

Donald Alberto Ramirez

Individuals El SalvadorDeputy Sergeant Donald Alberto Ramirez, 35, was killed in action at about 6:30 p.m. local time, July 27, 2006, as a result of the detonation of an improvised explosive device while providing convoy security for a Coalition supply run near Diwaniyah.

Donald was a medic stationed with the Cuscatlan Battalion in Iraq. Before deploying he was with the Military Health Command. Pedro Cortez was also wounded in the blast, suffering light injuries to his left arm and leg. Both soldiers were in a marked El Salvador Military ambulance, which appears to have been specifically targeted.

Donald is the fourth member of the Salvadoran armed forces to be killed in Iraq since El Salvador deployed troops there in 2003, and the second in nine days. El Salvador has about 380 soldiers in Iraq.

The soldiers are stationed at Camp Delta, in Al Kut. The Salvadoran soldiers were protecting a convoy of KBR, the contractor ordered to give logistical support and food to the Coalition troops. Both were transported back to the base for medical treatment.

Jose Miguel Perdomo

Individuals El SalvadorSubsargento Jose Perdomo, 41, was killed in action on Wednesday July 19, 2006, as a result of an improvised explosive device which detonated in the Al Kut suburb of Alkarramm while he was providing security for reconstruction teams. He was assigned to the Cuscatlan Battalion.

Jose joined the El Salvador armed forces on February 1, 1985, and was allocated to the Marina Infantry, part of the country’s Naval force, as a driver. The other wounded soldier, 30-year-old Jose Alexander Herrera Diaz, entered the military on June 27, 1998, and was assigned to the Regiment of Knighthood as a .50cal machine gunner.

Both soldiers were immediately evacuated to the military Hospital in Baghdad. Perdomo suffered wounds to the left side of the thorax and died while being transported to the facility. Diaz received splinter fragments to his left ear and jaw.

Carlos A. Godoy Castro

Carlos Castro, based in San Salvador, was killed on Monday June 27, 2005, due to a vehicle accident in Camp Charlie near Al Hillah. It appears that there was an accident as Carlos was repairing the vehicle.

As far as the accident, it happened within the military base Charly, when Godoy Castro came to change a rim of a military vehicle, and was coiled "by another vehicle that arrived to fulfill a mission", explained Defense.

Natividad Méndez Ramos

Individuals El SalvadorLaprensagrafica.com -- Natividad Méndez Ramos era también el soldado para su madre y sus hermanos: el dinero que ganaba como militar en servicio lo destinaba para enfrentar las necesidades de su progenitora y las de sus otros cinco hermanos.

Tuvo una vida marcada que no le permitió tener una niñez y adolescencia como cualquier otro niño. Su juventud tampoco la gozó, pues la muerte le llegó cuando apenas tenía 19 años de edad.

Natividad, nacido el 30 de diciembre de 1984, no fue afortunado en su niñez: quedó huérfano cuando tenía cinco años de edad. Su padre, don Moisés Méndez Beltrán, falleció a consecuencia de una enfermedad terminal.
