Phillip Brandon Williams

Individuals USRecord-Courier -- A Gardnerville soldier was killed Monday in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries suffered from enemy contact during combat operations.
Pfc. Phillip Brandon Williams, 21, was serving with the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Ky.
Williams’ friend Gardnerville Ranchos resident Jake Cervantes said he has known the soldier since the eighth grade.
“We’ve been best friends for about seven years,” he said. “We felt like brothers.”
Cervantes said he last saw Williams in August when he was in the Valley for his sister’s birthday.
“We talked about the usual stuff, stories he had in mind, memories of stuff we did,” Cervantes said. “He was always looking to the future. He was always concerned about his friends and never thought of himself at all. He always wanted the best for his family and friends, and he considered us his family.”
Cervantes said Williams played the guitar very well and was part of a circle of artists and creative people.

He said Williams was scheduled to return home in November.
According to the Department of Defense, Williams was assigned to the 4th Brigade Troop Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 101st.
He is the son of 19-year South Lake Tahoe Police veteran Brad Williams. His uncle also works at the police department and another uncle is a correctional officer for the California Department of Corrections.
The date for funeral services are pending, but are expected to occur at Eastside Memorial Park in Gardnerville.
Williams was a graduate of Douglas High School.

Brandon,
It's hard to sit here and look at my computer screen and write this knowing that your gone... I was thinking about you not too long ago and remembered our last conversation outside your house and I thought about you in Iraq and when you would be home... There were things I wanted to tell you when you came home and I was so looking forward to telling you when then news came that you had passed away... I was devistated, it hit me like nothing i've ever felt... I read in the newspaper that you were going to be home on November 17th, my birthday... it looks as though I wont get a chance to say the things I wanted to say to your face so i'll tell you now...
Thank you, for everything you did for me, thank you for seeing me and taking the time to know who I really am... you always told me to stand up and be strong and not care what other people thought... you were one of my very best friends... you mean so much to me... I want you to know that I love you, I always have and I always will... Im so thankful that I got to be apart of your life, and im so thankful that I got to sit and talk to you and know you... your an extradonary person and you had such a beautiful spirit... im sorry for the people who never got to see that in you... you deserved life more than anybody that I know, you were doing great things, you went beyond everybody's expectations of you, you lived your dream and I hope that you can look down and know in your heart that you did something incredible....
Im so sorry that I wont see your smile anymore or hear your laugh or read one of your stories you wrote... I would have loved to change the oil of a car with you one more time, but most of all im sorry that I never got to say goodbye... but always know that your in my thoughts, my mind and my prayers always and forever... I will carry you in my heart the rest of my life, you will never be forgotton and when I get to heaven I hope that you'll be waiting there with new stories, full of laughs and a car that needs an oil change really bad :) until that day... rest peacefully and know that you are only a thought away...
Thank you for everything you've done for me and for our country... your a HERO....
I love you always....
Mel...
