NBC4.tv -- Spc. Christopher D. Young of Los Angeles died Friday from injuries when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Safwen, Iraq, officials said.
"California's heroic soldiers fight to defend our freedom and democracy," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said. "Specialist Young stopped at nothing to make those rights available to all. Maria and I are thinking of Christopher's family, friends and fellow soldiers as they cope with their tragic loss."
Young was assigned to Company C, 3rd Battalion, 160th Infantry Regiment, California Army National Guard, San Pedro.
