Mlive.com -- A Michigan National Guard soldier from Grand Blanc died in Iraq after suddenly falling ill.

Sgt. Thomas G. Wright, 38, of Grand Blanc died Sunday while in flight to Germany for treatment, said Master Sgt. Denice Rankin, a public affairs specialist for the Michigan National Guard. Initial reports indicated he might have suffered an aneurysm, but the cause of death has not yet been officially determined.
Wright was deployed to Iraq with the Army National Guard's 46th Military Police Company out of Kingsford and Cheboygan, Rankin said.
He previously went to Iraq with the 144th Military Police Company out of Owosso.
Wright was featured several times in The Flint Journal. He was called up in March 2002 just a month before the birth of his only child, daughter Alexis. He was able to make it back to be at the side of his wife, Katherine, during the birth.
He returned from that tour in February 2003 and told The Journal, "I'm anxious to get home to my wife and my new baby girl."
Most recently, Wright was home on leave from this tour for two weeks in February and took 4-year-old Alexis to the Daddy-Daughter Dance hosted by Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation.
The Army reported a soldier died of noncombat-related causes in Iraq at 5 a.m. Monday, which would have been Sunday evening local time.
Swartz Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements, which have not yet been announced.
