KTVB -- Private 1st class Raymond Werner was 21.

Ray, as his family and friends called him, attended Cole Valley Christian High School and Boise State before joining the army. He married his wife Lacey last June, less than one month before he was deployed to Iraq. He was part of a unit sent overseas to find and destroy improvised explosive devices.

The same thing that killed him along with two other Idaho soldiers this past week. Ray's mother lives in Nampa and his wife, Lacey, is in Boise.

Lacey released a statement to us today saying quote, "Ray was a brave man with the kindest heart. He treated everyone with respect and every person who met him became a better person".

She says Ray joined the military so that he could do his part to contribute to the country and give other men and women serving their county a chance to return home.

She goes on to say Ray is and will always be her hero.

Ray,
I would like to say thank you to you and the other two soldiers who were also killed in that blast for your service and sacrifice for our Country. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
