www.wcpo.com -- A Clermont County Marine has died while serving in Iraq.

Bryan Taylor, of Miami Township, graduated from Milford High School in 2004, attending a computer program at Live Oaks, also in Milford.

Friends and family told Channel 9's Bill Price that Taylor died of gunshot wounds.

He was refueling a humvee when he was struck by gunfire, Price reported.

He's the 21st Tri-state military member to be killed in the latest Iraq war, which has claimed the lives of 2,344 American men and women as of Friday morning.

Flags outside Milford High and Live Oaks were lowered to half staff around noon Friday.

In a statement from Mark Lutz, Milford High Assistant Principal, and LaRue Turner, Milford High technology teacher, they say Bryan will be missed by the faculty and staff.

They added Bryan had a strong interest in computers and technology and enjoyed stretching his capabilities, particularly in computer aided drafting.

After graduating, he would frequently return to Milford High to visit when he was in town.

Taylor went to work right after high school, but was looking for a bigger challenge in his life, the statement said.

His last visit was in December 2005. He was very proud of his decision to serve in the Marines, according to the school statement, and credited the Marines with giving him direction and helping him become an adult.

Rich Rolfert was Bryan Taylor’s computer assisted drafting instructor at Live Oaks Career Development Campus in Milford. Rich remembers Bryan as being happy, friendly, friendly, caring and conscientious.

“He was always very interested in what was happening in the world,” said Rich. “He was very concerned about social issues and made the effort to understand all sides. I called him “The Philosopher.” I had a lot of respect for Bryan. I am so sad to hear about his tragic loss.”
