Associated Press -- The Defense Department says a 59-year-old Wyoming National Guard soldier who had been deployed to Iraq has died of non-combat related illness.
 Staff Sergeant Theodore Spatol, of Thermopolis, died last Thursday in Thermopolis after returning from Iraq.
Spatol was assigned to the 1041st Engineer Company out of Rock Springs.
Guard spokeswoman Deidre Forster says Spatol became ill while Iraq but she did not know the nature of the illness.
The 1041st remains in Iraq where it has been deployed since September.
