ajc.com Metro -- A South Georgia soldier just two weeks from the end of his tour of duty has been killed in Iraq.
Spc. Channing G. Singletary of Sylvester, who was assigned to the Army National Guard's 122nd Support Center in Savannah, died in Baghdad on Friday, according to a Department of Defense statement.
The statement did not say how the 30-year-old soldier died, only that his death was "non-combat-related" and is under investigation.
Singletary graduated from Worth County High School, then moved to Athens and joined the Army National Guard as a recruiter.
Singletary, who is divorced, is survived by his parents, three siblings and a son.
