Ed Santini

Individuals USSgt. Ed Santini, 25, of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, died in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Santini was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

Army National Guard Brigadier General Roberto Marrero escorted Astrid Santini, the pregnant wife of the late Sergeant Santini as his remains were returned to his native Puerto Rico on Friday, in San Juan, March 23, 2007.

The impending arrival of Santini's first child and his mother's advice that his job at a fast-food joint would not get his family ahead led him to enlist in the military at the age of 20.

Ed,
I would like to say thank you to you and the other three soldiers who were also killed in that blast for your service and sacrifice for our Country. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
