The Mercury News -- PASADENA, Calif.- Army Spc. Adam J. Rosema died doing what he felt was "a lot of good" in Iraq, his father said.

Rosema, 27, of Pasadena, died Wednesday from wounds sustained after a roadside bomb went off near his vehicle south of Baqubah.

He was assigned to the 215th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

"I'm very proud of him," his father, John Rosema, said Monday. "It's kind of shocking right now, but I know he died doing what he wanted and doing his best." Rosema was "modest and private," his father said.

He joined the Army in April 2005 as a mechanic specializing in Bradley fighting vehicles and was sent to Iraq in October.

Rosema, who just bought a recreational vehicle, said he planned to "keep on living." "Adam would have said: 'Don't wait for me, I'll catch up,"' he said.

My condolences to Adam's family. Pasadena is only a few miles from here in NE Los Angeles, so I consider him a local boy, as well as an American hero. Well done, Soldier.

My heart goes out to Adams Dad and Grandma and family. Adam was a great kid and I am so proud to have known him and speak with him just before he was deployed. He loved wearing his Nascar jacket and we spoke at length about Nascar. He was just a kid as are all our soldiers going off to war with such strength and bravery. He loved working on cars and maintaing military vehicles was something I am sure he did quite well. He will be forever missed. Thankyou Adam for standing proud and strong for our country. Adam was a friend of mine. I met him at Ft. Hood shortly before we deployed. I am part of 215th BSB 1CD as well. I would like to send condolences to his family and to his friends. I have no way to contact them so I hope somehow this message will find them. I didnt know him well, but what I did know is that he loved his job and he loved the Army. His roommate was killed exactly a month before Adam. I attended the memorial with him to be a moral support but in his time of loss he was my support. He was kind and gentle and he will be missed.
