A Camp Lejeune Marine was only a month away from returning to meet his 2-week-old daughter before he was killed in Iraq last week, his father said.

Cpl. Timothy D. Roos, 21, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Thursday when a bomb destroyed his Humvee near Ramadi, the military said. Roos had survived a similar explosion during his first tour of Iraq last year.

Roos had been eager to come home to his new daughter, Annaliese, and wife, Sara, said father Rick Roos.

From the age of 2, the younger Roos wanted to grow up to join the Marines. Rick Roos also served as a Marine, with a stint in Vietnam.

"He always had my old uniforms on, and he said that's what he wanted to be," said father Roos.

The younger Roos had been headstrong, his father said. He was a dedicated swimmer who still holds some local records. Roos graduated in 2003 from a local technical high. He had studied auto mechanics and served as commander of his ROTC unit.

He enlisted a few months after graduation.

During his time last year in Fallujah, Roos' Humvee was destroyed by a buried explosive device, although all the Marines survived. After the incident, Roos spoke with a Marine Corps News reporter about the dangers of war.

"Its scary, and if you're not scared, there is something wrong with you," he said. "But it's our job, so you got to do it."

Also killed in last Thursday's attack were Lance Cpl. Adam R. Murray, 21, of Cordova, Tenn., and Pfc. Enrique C. Sanchez, 21, of Garner. All were members of the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division

Murray was a 2003 graduate of Cordova High School, a school official said. His father, Tom Murray, declined comment to The Commercial Appeal newspaper, saying his son had previously asked him not to speak to the media.

Several neighbors told the newspaper the family asked them not to speak to reporters.

Since the end of March, 14 men from the 3rd Battalion have died.

To Sarah, Annaliesse and the Roos family from the aliese. Wahl family. Our heart and prays are with you. As I can assure you every fallen family feels the same way. Your TIMOTHY was an AMERICAN HERO! Much more to your loving family and all those that Timothy has met in his life. To be proud to be a "MARINE". Timothy was the Hall of Famer of the Marines as Johnny Bench was to baseball. Timothy answered a calling very few AMERICANS don't. That tells me alot about Timothy. That his loving parents gave him direction as a child to being an adult. Sarah knew that Timothy was special. She was his everything, as he to Sarh. Timothy IS RESTING NOW. Reflect on memorable times you each shared together, you realize Timothy in your hearts. More importantly, Sarah you gave birth to Annaliese. She is daddy's liittle girl. To Timothy's parents Sarah and Timothy gave you something special. Your grand daughter Annaliesse. Timothy is very much what? You see in Annaliese. God Bless! I know as a fallen soldiers father US Army Sgt. gregory L. Wahl KIA Blad, Iraq 05-03-04. My grand daughter is very much like her daddy. I misss Gregory as you will of Timothy. Still he left me his ALexis as Timothy left you Ann

I whent to Boot camp and SOI with Roos. I didn't know him all that well till SOI. He and I did most everything together. I got my First Tattoo with him and Remeber the day that he had to leave SOI early to get to his "new unit" and he was so damn excited, because he wanted to go to Iraq. Thats the last I heard from him. I did 2 years at a differnt unit and never ran in to him. I got to LAR were I was sent to the MEU plt that would be going out with BLT 3/8. the only thing I could think of was running in to Roos and seeing how well he was doing, were all he had been, what he had done. I had a meeting with the wpns Co. CO in the middle room of the BLT offices, were I saw one of the most heart renching sites I had seen. Under the lost but not forgotten billboard I saw Roos's Picture. I couldn't Beleave it. I didnt know what to do, what to think. But I relised that he's not the only one that has pasted in the fight for our right to live in a free country. this is why I have order and wear every day a KIA band in Roos's honer. Rest in Peace Roos. you are not forgoten. If you would like to contat me, send me and e-mail at bdr0311@yahoo.com
