WACH -- Staff Sgt. Ronald Phillips Jr., 33, from Conway died Thursday in a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq.

Cpt. Justin DeVantier, a casualty assistant officer with the Army, said Phillips was in a patrol vehicle when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated. It happened in Bahbahani, not far from Baghdad.
DeVantier said Phillips, who was on his second tour of duty in Iraq, deployed with the 3rd Infantry Division out of Ft. Stewart, Ga. He was first deployed from January 2005 to January 2006, but had been on active duty with the United States Army since January of 1996.
Phillips was married and had two children, a 7-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter, all of whom still live in the Conway area.
Latimer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and said Phillips' funeral will be held Friday at St. Elizabeth Baptist Church in Aynor. A time has not yet been finalized. |
I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
