Michael B. Presley

Individuals USwww.wvec.com -- A North Carolina-based Marine who died this week of wounds sustained in Iraq enjoyed visiting elementary schools before his deployment and became somewhat of a celebrity in his small north Mississippi hometown, his former teacher said.

Cpl. Michael "Brandon" Presley, 21, of Batesville died Wednesday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany after being wounded in a suicide bombing in Iraq, the Department of Defense said.

He was conducting combat operations when he was fatally injured in the explosion.

Presley was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Known as Brandon to his friends, Presley kept in touch with his teachers from the North Delta School — even while he was stationed overseas, principal John Howell said.

"The neat thing that made him stand out for those of us who taught him was the way he made a point to reconnect with us periodically," Howell said. "Often when you teach, you have to guess at the work that you're doing. But Brandon let us know that he appreciated us, and that made him stand out more than other students I have taught."

Presley was a lineman for the school's 2000 state football championship team when it won the Class 3A title.

He had a unique connection with children and enjoyed reaching out to the youth at his school, even after his own graduation, Howell said.

"As recently as this school year, he spent time visiting on our campus and he visited our elementary campus — and of course he was in his uniform and that made him somewhat of a celebrity to the children," Howell said.

"I remember when he finished his bootcamp experience ... he came by and visited with our first graders and he taught them how to march and salute. He enjoyed that."

Cpl Presley was one of my Marines while he was stationed in Okinawa. He was always a good leader and stood out from the other troops. We sent him to be the Chief of Staff driver because he was very bright for his age and he had great potential. After returning from there he left again to be a VIP driver. Cpl Presley was a very good Marine. His family and friends should be proud of him and know that he influenced everyone that he came in contact with.
Semper Fi Cpl Michael "BRANDON" Presley.

Cpl Presley was a good friend of mine for the time that i knew him when he was staitioned on Okinawa. I can remember the times we would pt together and how much he would make me laugh by the crazy things he would say. Also the times he would go out and have dinner with my girlfreind and I. Cpl Presley will greatfully be missed. Its ashame such a good marine with so many dreams has to leave this world in such a way,but for the time that I knew him thats how I will remember him. Prayer,
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord, Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears attend to the voice of my supplication.
If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt, Lord, who could survive? But there is forgiveness in you, and we revere you for it.
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watch-men for the morning.
O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with Him is plenteous redemption. And He will redeem Israel from all iniquities.
Eternal rest grant unto N., O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon(him, her, them). May (he, she, they) rest in peace. Amen.
O Lord, hear my prayer. And let me cry come to you.
O God, creator and redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of your departed servants the forgiveness of all their sins.
Through my prayer, may they obtain the pardon they have always desired. Amen
-Psalm 130 (129)

wow, Presley, i still can't believe it...Presley was one of my boys and headmate in Okinawa. He was a funny dude, always made me laugh...he had this joke where he'll ask the same question over and over and then ask why. Presley was real cool, when it came down to business and work, he did it no question ask. Real dependable... and also when it came down to having fun he was one of those people you wanted to be around with. I never met anybody who love their family as much as he did, ill catch him almost everyday at late nights and early mornings talking and chatting to his family and girl back at home...Presley will always be remembered...may he rest in peace and god bless to him and his family.
