KPHO -- ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Army said one of the three soldiers from Alaska's Fort Richardson killed last week in Iraq was a 20-year-old paralegal originally from Arizona.

Spc. Coty J. Phelps died when a roadside bomb exploded near the soldiers' vehicle in Iskandariya, Iraq.

Phelps was born in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, in June 1986. 

He was a paralegal who joined the Army through the Delayed Entry Program in February 2004 and graduated from high school in May 2004.

He received basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and graduated from airborne school at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Phelps was assigned to Fort Richardson's 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division.

Phelps is survived by his father, Robbie, of Kingman, two brothers and a sister.
