Army Spc. Jose Roberto Perez was killed by small-arms fire in the city of Ramadi.
Perez was a member of the 1st Battalion, 6th Army Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Armored Division based in Baumholder, Germany. Visitation will be held 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at St. George Catholic Church, 505 N. Palm Ave., Ontario. The service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with internment at Bellevue Memorial Park.
This year, seven soldiers with ties to the Inland Valley have been killed in combat in the Middle East, with three killed this month.
News of Perez's death came as the White House on Monday officially discarded "stay the course" as U.S. policy in Iraq.
