Individuals USCommercial Appeal -- A 21-year-old Cordova man was killed in Iraq last week, becoming at least the eighth local soldier to die in the Iraq war, military officials said Monday.

The Marines said Lance Corporal Adam R. Murray died July 27 during fighting in Al Anbar province.

Based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Murray was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.

Tom Murray, Adam's father, said he didn't want to talk about the death, adding that his son had asked him previously not to speak to the media. Several neighbors said the family had asked them not to speak about Murray, either.

Murray was a 2003 graduate of Cordova High School, county schools spokesman Mike Tebbe said.

Murray was one of four Marines killed Thursday in Al Anbar.

Also killed were Lance Corporal James W. Higgins Jr., 22, of Frederick, Md.; Corporal Timothy Roos, 21, of Cincinnati and Private First Class Enrique Sanchez, 21, of Garner, N.C.

Higgins was based at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Roos, who has a 2-week-old daughter, and Sanchez were based at Camp Lejeune along with Murray.

Marine officials didn't respond to phone calls Monday.

It was reported, however, that Sanchez died when the Humvee he was riding in ran over a mine near Ramadi, a Sunni Arab city of 400,000 that's the capital of Anbar province.

Anbar is also where Raleigh Marine Lance Corporal Tim Creager was killed in an explosion in 2004.

Ramadi is considered to be an especially dangerous place in Iraq's Sunni Triangle, according to an Associated Press story from the area on Sunday.

"We're in a very aggressive neighborhood. We need to take out as many of them as possible at a time, and throw in some intimidation there too," Lance Corporal Richard Mason, 21, of Medina, Ohio, who has fired 27 rockets on gangs of insurgents in the area, told the wire service.

Last month, 44 U.S. servicemen died in Iraq, including 10 in Al Anbar province during the last few days.

No disrespect to the family of the young man named Adam Murray who died, but this article is very disturbing due to the fact whoever wrote it used the picture of the WRONG Adam Murray!! The picture in this article is of another Adam Murray who was at Camp Lejeun before deploying to Kuwait in 2007. This photo has caused some very frantic moments for friends and family! Again, I am sorry for the family of Adam Murray who passed away last year.
