Individuals USwww.lasvegassun.com -- LAS VEGAS (AP) - The parents of a Nevada soldier killed in Iraq said Thursday they were devastated by his death, and said they want to hold a memorial once his body is returned home.

Pvt. Joshua M. Morberg, 20, of Sparks, was one of two U.S. Army soldiers killed Tuesday when an explosive device detonated near them in Baghdad, the Department of Defense said.

"We're asking everyone to wait until we have information," Morberg's mother, Victoria Demet, said in a brief telephone interview. "We would really like to do a tribute later."

Spec. Lance S. Sage, 26, of Hempstead, N.Y., also was killed and several other service members were injured in the attack, which Sgt. Ron Demet, an Army spokesman, said occurred during a morning raid on a house in the Iraqi capital.

Morberg enlisted in the Army in June 2004, after graduating from Washoe High School in Reno, said his father, Mark Morberg. He previously attended Reed High School in Sparks and Reno Technical Institute in Reno.

His parents issued a statement through the Nevada Office of the Military in Carson City seeking privacy.

"Our family is proud of our son and his courageous service to our country," it said.

Morberg and Sage were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division based at Fort Hood, Texas, the military said.

Morberg was the 15th Nevada soldier to die in Iraq since the start of the war there in March 2003.

Gov. Kenny Guinn and U.S. U.S. Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., issued statements offering condolences to Morberg's family and friends.

"Private Morberg served his country with honor," Gibbons said, vowing that the U.S. would not give in to terrorists.

"To lose any of our brave men and women in battle is always a sad reminder of the price our courageous soldiers sometimes pay during time of war," Guinn said. "But when it is a young man who is just beginning life as an adult, it is especially heavy on our hearts."
