The Bulgarian soldier who was in critical condition after a crash in Iraq has died, the Defence Ministry announced.

Corporal Marin Milev Milev passed away Tuesday at a German hospital.
Corporal Milev and several other Bulgarian military men were in a vehicle that slipped off the road last week and drowned. Two soldiers died immediately, while Milev slipped into a coma.
Despite his critical condition, the family of the young man were hoping that he might recover. There were even talks last weekend that he has started to gradually improve at a Landstuhl clinic.
Going by armored personal carrier BRDM-2 the soldiers were patrolling during "White Shield" operation. While performing the task the BRDM-2 slipped off a dike, fell into a canal and turned on its side. As a result of the accident three soldiers were seriously wounded.
The three out of the four-member crew were immediately rushed to the hospital. In spite of intense care, two of them - Private Tsvetan Stoyanov Kamov and Private Paun Stoyanov Georgiev - died. The third one, Corporal Marin Milev Milev, was transported by Medical Evacuation to a hospital in Baghdad.
Private Dimcho Stamov, who was the fourth member of the crew, managed to get out of the vehicle and has no serious wounds, Bulgarian Defense Ministry's press center said.
Twelve other Bulgarians have died in Iraq since the country joined the peacekeepers there. |
