 News10.net -- SACRAMENTO, CA - The Department of Defense reported Wednesday that Army Sgt. Michael K. Clark, 24, of Sacramento was killed while on patrol in Mosul, Iraq.

Clark was based at Fort Carson in Colorado. A base representative said Clark died on October 7. He was on patrol when he encountered small arms fire.
This was Clark's second tour of duty in Iraq. He was first deployed to Iraq in November, 2005, and served there until October, 2006. He returned to Iraq last December.
Clark was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colorado. He joined the unit on December 30, 2004.
Clark had received several medals during his service including the Army Commendation Medal-2, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star-2, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-2, and Combat Action Badge.
Gov. Schwarzenegger directed that State Capitol flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Clark. The governor also issued the following statement:
"Sergeant Michael Clark was a courageous soldier who sacrificed his life in defense of our nation's freedom. His dedication and service to our country is an inspiration to us all and he will forever be remembered. Maria and I join all Californians in offering our prayers and sympathies to Michael's family and friends during this difficult time."
