St. Louis Post-Dispatch -- WRIGHT CITY — A soldier from Wright City died Wednesday in Iraq of injuries from a non-combat-related incident, about two weeks before he was to return home for his wedding.

The Defense Department said circumstances surrounding the death of Pvt. Lucas M. Bregg, 19, in Baghdad are under investigation but did not release any further information.
Family members also were not given any details, said Pvt. Bregg's grandmother Kathleen Green.
Green said her grandson grew up in St. Charles County and went to Francis Howell schools, including Francis Howell North High School. During his senior year, he moved to Wright City to live with his father, Michael Bregg.
After graduating last year from Wright City High, he joined the Army and had been in Iraq in the infantry about six months.
She said he was planning to return home later this month to marry his fiancée on July 25.
"It's just devastating, of course," said Green, of West Linn, Ore. "To lose a child and a grandchild is just devastating."
Green was visiting the St. Charles County home of Tracie Green — her daughter and Pvt. Bregg's mother — when Army representatives visited Wednesday to inform the family of his death.
They said they really didn't know how he died, Kathleen Green said. "They explained that as soon as they know, we will know."
Green described her grandson as "a great kid" who was interested in anything related to cars. "He liked to do car work, body work; he loved that," she said.
Among other survivors are two brothers, Zachary Bregg and Colton Bregg, and a sister, Taylor Bregg. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
