WSBTV -- FORT KNOX, Ky. -- The Department of Defense belatedly has announced the death a Fort Knox soldier from Georgia of a noncombat related wounds.

The statement on Saturday said that 45-year-old Sgt. Jerry L. DeLoach of Jackson, Ga., died July 7, 2007.

Col. Gary Keck says the death is included as an Operation Iraqi Freedom casualty since DeLoach was medically evacuated from Iraq, even though he didn't die from his injuries there.

Keck says the Army is announcing the death now as a matter of record keeping.

DeLoach was assigned to the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Knox.
