9News -- A Tri-state soldier who had been fighting for life ever since he was injured in Iraq last month has lost that battle.
Private First Class Timothy Hines died in surgery Thursday night after developing pneumonia and other complications during his stay at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Hines had been hospitalized since a roadside bomb exploded next to his HUMVEE near Baghdad on Father's Day.
Sunday Prayer Service Planned
Friends and family will gather Sunday for a prayer service.
It will be held at the Cincinnati Christian Elementary School Gymnasium on Sunday, July 17th and 8 p.m.
That's located at 7350 Dixie Highway in Fairfield.
Friends and family will gather to pray and sing music since Hines was in the choir.
They will also release 500 red, white and blue balloons in his honor.
Neighbors Ask For Support
"Tim was just a great guy, and I just ask that everyone continue to support the family and just try to help them get through this time of need," said Christine Herman, a neighbor of the Hines family.
In just a few weeks, Hines' wife katie is expecting his second child, a brother to 2-year-old Lilly.
Family, Friends Kept In Touch Through E-mail
Herman said Hines also left behind many friends.
"There's a list of people that have been receiving e-mails and updates on Tim's condition since Katie went to Walter read to be with him," Herman said.
Tonight those friends learned of Hines' death through this e-mail from his parents.
"We just received word that Tim did not survive surgery. We have no further details but will send them on as we receive them. We want to thank everyone for their prayers, but will send them on as we receive them. We want to thank everyone for the prayers for Tim, please remember to remember the families that this has all affected," said Herman, reading the e-mail.
I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country. And to your family, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
A grateful citizen
