 La Prensa -- San Salvador. President Tony Saca lamented the death of a captain and the caused injuries to four soldiers more in an insurgent attack to a Salvadoran convoy in a town of the south of Iraq.
 "The captain Jose Argelio Soto Ochoa died like a hero after contributing enormously to the humanitarian subject in favor of Iraq", said Extraction in a message to the nation, transmitted yesterday in a radio chain.

The death of Soto captain Ochoa represents the fifth victim from the first shipment of the Salvadoran military in August of 2003.

Soto Ochoa died Friday when the convoy was attacked with explosive devices in the neighborhoods of the city sureña of An Numaniya, province of Wasit, informed the vice-minister into National defense, general Ricardo Benjamín South wind.

The Archbishop of San Salvador, Fernando Sáenz Lacalle, asked the Government yesterday to reconsider the convenience of maintaining troops in Iraq after the death of the captain Jose Argelio Soto Ochoa, happened Friday in Bagdad.
"We are very ashamed with the news of a new victim in Iraq. I believe that a suggestion to the Government of El Salvador is opportune on the necessity to review if this sign from support to the United States is necessary or not", expressed the archbishop in a press conference.
It added that "we prayed by the victim and her family and asked our Gentleman whom he protects to those who are in that situation and that also she accompanies all the Salvadorans, who all we are here in danger by the violence wave".

CPT Soto Ochoa was a brave warrior destined to serve his great country of El Salvador. His military career started as an enlisted person.
In 1992 he entered the military academy and was commissioned a 2nd LT in 1995 and promoted to CPT in 2004. He was an expert signal officer, who loved to train his fellow service members.
While in Iraq he expanded his skills and worked with the Naval Force as a Marine.

CPT Soto Ochoa was more than a courageous solider, more than competent officer, he was a loving husband with 3 adorable children ages 6, 4, and 2 and he was a man with a deep abiding faith in God. While heading to Camp Delta, on Oct 20 his convoy was attacked by an enemy IED where CPT Soto Ochoa was mortally wounded.
As the medivac was enroute an El Salvadorian SGT was comforting the CPT when Jose realized death was imminent and just before he became unconscious he asked the SGT to communicate these heart wrenching words “Tell my wife and my children I love them much.” |
