Constitution-Tribune -- JEFFERSON CITY - Pfc. Alva L. Gaylord, of Carrollton, died of combat related injuries while serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on Friday.
Gaylord, 25, was a member of the Missouri Army National Guard's Company C, 110th Engineer Battalion, of Lexington, Mo.
 According to Department of Defense reports, Gaylord was operating an RG-31 Mine Protected Vehicle near Qasr Ar Riyy, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near the vehicle.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Alva Gaylord,” said Maj. Gen. King Sidwell, Missouri National Guard adjutant general. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the members of the 110th Engineer Battalion as they struggle in their bereavement.”
Gaylord served as a member of the Missouri Army National Guard for approximately three years. He served as a combat engineer with Company C of the 110th Engineer Battalion. His military awards include: the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Missouri Basic Training Ribbon.
Funeral arrangements are pending under the direction of Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton. A memorial service and a visitation will be scheduled in Carrollton with burial planned in south Missouri. |
