WKYT -- FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - The Pentagon has announced that a Kentucky soldier has been killed in Iraq.

A statement says Sgt. David K. Cooper of Williamsburg died
Wednesday in Baghdad from wounds suffered when his patrol came
under small arms fire.

The 25-year-old was stationed out of Fort Hood, Texas.

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has ordered that flags at state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on the day of Cooper's funeral.

Croley Funeral Home in Williamsburg was handling arrangements,
including a yet to be scheduled memorial service sometime next week.

Jerry Croley, owner of the funeral home, said Cooper's body was being flown back from Iraq on Friday evening.

Rest In Peace Battle.

It was an honor serving with you as a dismount partner. August 27, 2008 will always be remembered and never forgotten. The one thing that stands out in my mind before it happend was when me, you, and Spc. Ruddy were playing catch before rolling out on a sunny day. I'd give anything to have you back here. Truck 1 will never be the same without you. I love you battle. God has you in his arms now. (It's day three without you here buddy and I can't stop crying). I know you are in motorcycle heaven hittin' about 185 in 4th gear ridin' the night away. My prayers this day and days after will go towards your family. I pray they're taking it a lot better than me right now...I love you battle.
