CBS47 -- The war in Iraq claims the life of another valley marine. Anthony Butterfield was killed over the weekend.

The military has not confirmed how or when he died.

Butterfield graduated from Buchanan High School in Clovis just last year.

Friends say he joined the marines just weeks after his high school graduation.

Butterfield was just about one month away from finishing his tour of duty and returning home to Clovis.

His family released this statement:

"Those who had the good fortune to cross paths with Tony will know that he gave freely of his love and laughter. As Tony would wish, we continue to pray for his brothers-in-arms who continue on in Tony's absence…"

This story is so common. It was ours almost 2 years ago. If I can be of any help, please contact me @ mccarthychristopher01@msn.com I wish you all the strength to deal with this and hope your son comforts you through the next few months. When the tears start to flow and you are questioning why??? Remember him and be proud!

Anthony,
I would like to say thank you to you and the other Marines who were killed in that attack for your service and sacrifice for our Country. And to your family, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

My daughter went to Buchanan High with Tony and many times she had made comment about how excited he was to go serve our country. I thank great soldiers like him who continue to serve and help us keep a free country. Thank you Tony. You will be missed.
