Herald Leader -- FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - A Missouri soldier who was with the 101st Airborne Division was killed when a roadside bomb hit his patrol in Baghdad, the Army said Thursday.
1st Lt. Amos Camden R. Bock, 25, of New Madrid, Mo., was killed Monday, the military said in a statement. Bock was a member of the division's 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade.
The brigade deployed last fall and will return later this year. Most of nearly 20,000 soldiers in the division have already returned to Fort Campbell along the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
Bock entered the Army in May 2004 and arrived at Fort Campbell in January 2005. He is survived by his parents, Jill and Harry, of New Madrid, Mo.
A memorial service for Bock will be held in Iraq.
The Department of Defense also announced the death of a Kentucky soldier serving with a Tennessee unit.
Lance Cpl. Jonathan B. Thornsberry, 22, of McDowell, Ky., died Wednesday while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to Marine Forces Reserve's 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, in Johnson City, Tenn.
