Denver Post -- A Colorado Springs soldier died Friday of wounds suffered in Iraq when a vehicle carrying a bomb exploded at a checkpoint.

Spec. Benjamin Brosh, 22, was an infantryman based at Fort Campbell, Ky.

He is survived by his mother, Barbara Brosh of Colorado Springs, and his father, James Brosh of Biloxi, Miss.

His family could not be reached for comment.

Brosh entered the Army in April 2006 and arrived at Fort Campbell in December 2006.

He was assigned to the D Company, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.

The U.S. Department of Defense said Brosh died in Paliwoda, Iraq, after suffering wounds at a checkpoint near Balad.

Brosh's awards and decorations included the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and expert weapons qualification.
